GP registrar Dr Zubair joined the practice just weeks ago after working in Kerang and has quickly settled into her new role.

“I’ll be very happy to meet the community and provide care for the community.”

She said the bonus of working in rural communities is that it leads to stronger relationships patients.

“When you’re working in a rural area with small communities, you get to know the patients better,” Dr Zubair said. “They come in for follow-ups and you often treat the whole family.”

Dr Sivananthavel joined the practice in September after spending four-and-a-half years working across Ararat’s medical system.

“I’ve done a bit of GP work and emergency department work.”

Dr Sivananthavel said the move to Beaufort allowed him to spend more time with his family.

“My kids are just starting school, so I wanted to spend more time with the family,” he said.

“I like it here. I’ve been working in rural and regional areas, and the good thing is some of my patients moved with me from Ararat, so I can still cater to them.”

He said working in a small rural practice presented unique challenges but was professionally rewarding.

“It actually tests your knowledge and your medicine. There’s a big difference between working in the city and working in a regional area. It keeps you on your toes, and it’s good medicine.”

Practice manager Dolphina Truter said the additions were a major boost for the practice and the wider community.

“It’s fantastic for the region. We’re happy to welcome them and happy for patients to see them, it just means our practice is growing,” she said.
