Jane Baker from Mrs Baker's Still House is most excited about the Silver medal for their Coffee Liqueur.
"We work with Hellbilly Roasting in Ballarat. Sourcing local ingredients makes sense to us because our products capture freshness," she said.
"We pick up the coffee beans just after they have been roasted. They go straight into the still for distillation of the coffee liqueur the next morning."
OTHER NEWS:
Ballarat coffee roaster, Brad Palmer, from Hellbilly Roasting said he was "just blown away" when he heard the news.
Mr Palmer has been a roasting commercially since 2012. Hellbilly Roasting makes single origin roasts as well as their very popular "Slow Acoustic" blend.
"I do a special slightly lighter roast of the Slow Acoustic for Mrs Baker's Still House," explained Mr Palmer.
Ms Baker said she loved the days when coffee liqueur was being made.
"The distillery air is filled with the rich fresh coffee aromas," she said.
"When we were first developing the coffee liqueur, we felt we were missing a vital component to the balance. And then our son, who had just returned from working as a barister and bar manager in England for a number of years, recommended that we also blend in a cold brew with the distilled component.
"This makes extra complexity and enriches the liqueur."
The coffee liqueur has all the smoothness of Hellbilly Roasting's Slow Acoustic coffee, made into a stylish liqueur great for an after dinner treat, iced coffee or espresso martini.
It is much lighter in colour than other coffee liqueurs on the market, and a more sophisticated flavour, not so overly sweet.
The judges from the Melbourne International Spirits Competition highly commended the excellent balance between coffee and alcohol.
"It is wonderful to be able to exhibit our spirits and be judged on an international standard, right here in Melbourne. And we are delighted with our results," Ms Baker said.
Other medals won by Mrs Baker's Still House at the recent international competition were a silver for the Vodka and a bronze for one of the Gins. Mrs Baker's Still House is located at Glenpatrick, just 35 minutes from Ararat.
The micro distillery is open for tours, tastings and sales on the weekends - dependant on restrictions in regional Victoria.
Please phone ahead to make a booking. Hellbilly Roasting coffee is available at The Forge, 1816 bakery, Taltarni and Koffee Pirates.
